When they went 2-14 last season, it sucked. Then we fire Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards, a good start. Enter Scott Pioli, he only helped to put together the Patriots Dynasty the last 9 years, and new Head Coach Todd Haley, offensive guru from Arizona. So, things are looking up, particularly going into Free Agency with a ton of cap space and the #3 overall draft pick this year.

Scott Pioli just finished up his first trade for the Chiefs, and I got to tell you, it is a great trade. We pick up Mike Vrabel(solid linebacker and locker room guy) and Matt Cassell(the QB we drastically needed), for only a 2nd round draft pick. I would say this is very successful, get a starting LB and QB for a 2nd round pick, can't go wrong.

I know that people wanted to give Tyler Thigpen his chance next season, but if you really look at what he did this year, you will see that he is not a starting QB in the NFL. His success this year was due to the ability of OC Chan Gailey to realize his QB's limitations and run an offense that plays to the strengths. Unfortunately, it was an offense that is not sustainable in the NFL because it can't score if you get inside the 5 yd line. Oh yeah, Thigpen can't hit a receiver deep to save his life, he lacks arm strength and accuracy. I gladly welcome Matt Cassell as our next QB and get even more excited about what the future holds.

Boomer Sooner gets Rock Chalked!

You know, no matter how bleek the economy gets, how crappy work gets, or how cranky my 3-yr old daughter gets, there is always one thing that will put a smile on my face. My University of Kansas Jayhawks!!!! For those that don't know, I am a diehard Jayhawks fan and alumni.

After spending a shitty day at work which started at 5:30am, working from home, then getting into the office at 7:40, and not leaving until 12 hours later.......it sucked. I did get 10 minutes to eat lunch, though. Well, there was only one thing that could brighten my day, the BIG MONDAY matchup pitting my #15 Jayhawks at #3 Oklahoma. Now, to put into perspective the magnitude of the game, and what it means to KU, this is a team that was supposed to be rebuilding. They are fresh off a National Championship, losing their 6 top players, 5 to the NBA, with a Junior PG in Sherron Collins with significant playing time, they were picked to finish 4th or 5th in the Big 12 and have a so-so year!

Well, they go into tonights game, 11-1, and 22-5 overall! Well, they play OU who has been dominant all year, but they are playing without player of the year candidate Blake Griffin. And we capitalized, coming back from down 14 in the first half, to lead by 7 at half, to up 20 in the second, to exchanging 3 pointers to keep the score from 3 up to 6 up!!!! KU WINS!!!!!!! Sherron Collins, Cole Aldrich, and Tyshawn Taylor lead the team to an 87-78 victory, tops in the Big 12 and on the cusp of winning 5 straight regular season titles. I Love IT!!!! So, forget about work, this has been a great day, especially watching those Boomer Sooners get ROCK CHALKED!!!!!!!!!

A Fogo Valentine's

I make it no secret that I am not a believer in Valentine's Day. To me, it just seems like a pointless holiday truly designed so retailers could make some extra cash between Christmas and Easter. I realize that there is an actual history to Valentine's Day, but I still don't think it warrants a night of celebration.

That said, I have still had my fair share of Valentine celebrations. Hey, I am not an idiot, if the guy doesn't at least make an attempt at remembering Valentine's Day and doing something special, then it is a one way trip to the doghouse. Luckily, I married a woman who shares my dislike of v-day and so at most, we may have dinner, if we feel like it.

Well, Saturday night we actually had the opportunity to get out with a couple of clothes friends and celebrate v-day, though we were more celebrating my wife not having to work and the fact that we got a sitter for the night. In honor of this special occasion, we decided to hit a new restaurant that opened up on the Country Club Plaza. This just isn't any new restaurant, it is a brazilian steakhouse, where they specialize in Meat, Meat, and more Meat!!!!! The name of this grand place is Fogo de Chao!

If you have never eaten at a brazilian steakhouse, I give it a must try. If there is a Fogo de Chao near you, then I definitely recommend you go there, it is awesome. What makes a brazilian steakhouse different from other steakhouses is choices. See, at other steakhouses, you have to choose what steak you want, or maybe chicken, or lamb, whatever your appetite, but you have to choose only one. Well at a brazilian steakhouse, you can have it all, over and over again! The concept is simple, start with a really good salad bar, then move on to the main course. They start by bringing out your side dishes, no choice needed, you get some Polenta(fried cornbread), carmelized bananas, garlic mashed potato's, and cheese bread. They will bring all of it to you, and if you eat it all, they will bring you more, no extra cost. Then, it is time for the walk to heaven.

When you are seated, you are given a little card, looks like a coaster, one side is red, the other side is green. When you are ready for your entree, simply flip the card over to green and wait for a slice of bliss. Gaucho's will come around to your table, each carrying a giant skewer of meat that, at your request, they will cut a slice off for you to eat. So, you don't have to worry about making a bad choice, if you don't like what you got, don't eat it and wait for more meat to come by. However, I have yet to try any of their meat that isn't good, it is all delicious. You can get sirloin, ribeye, filet mignon, bacon wrapped chicken, parmesan pork, and lamb just for starters.

They offer 15 different types of meat that you can eat, and you can eat as much of it, the salad bar, and side dishes that you want. They have a great wine selection, and the dessert was amazing, if you can save room. If you love red meat, like I do, then you will never go to a better place. We stuffed our face for a good hour and a half and left extremely satisfied. The meal is one flat price, beverage, taxes, dessert are extra. The best thing is, if you are wanting to save a buck or two, then I recommend a lunch date. All the same great food, half the price.

Needless to say, this was a great Valentine's Day, and I will definitely be back to get some great food. So, if you haven't been to Fogo de Chao, go, if you haven't eaten at a Brazilian steakhouse, go!

It's a beautiful day

This week I got the greatest news I could possibly get while at work, and it is not a promotion. I know what some of you might be thinking, how could something work related be better than more money and greater power? Well, for me, it is finding out that my boss of the last 6 months is leaving the company.

I work in the planning organization of a large retail company and for the last 6 months, I have had to report to a director who had very limited planning experience, but he did work for prominent consulting companies working on retail strategies. For those that do not work in the corporate world let me make something very clear, Consultants are idiots. They are, they come in ask a lot of inquisitive questions, come up with a lot of ideas on how to improve processes and make things more efficient(most of which have already been thought up by people within the company), make pretty graphs, and then collect a paycheck. They never see their ideas through or even think that the failures are because they have no real clue as to what goes on.

Anyway, my boss is a consultant, so basically an idiot. In his short 6 month stint he managed to learn nothing about how the business works, work at the office from 8am - 8pm everyday, without actually doing anything, alienate every single one of his employees by not actually talking to any of them, and in general make bad business decisions that have cost our company money. However, he did make pretty graphs. So, as much of a headache he was for me, I am ecstatic that I no longer have to deal with him, making this a beautiful day!!!!

Vanity Cards

One of my favorite television shows on tv today is The Big Bang Theory. It has what I consider to be the three ingredients to making a successful comedy, originality, is actually funny, and has a hot girl for real sex appeal. However, it wasn't until the other day when I was watching on my DVR that I realized a new factor that makes it even more interesting, the blog factor.

If you ever watch the show, I urge that you wait until the end of the show to truly enjoy all elements. After the credits are shown and right before commercials begin, you will notice a white screen that pops up with paragraph of writing with a random # at the top. This screen is only up for a couple of seconds, so unless you have super speed reading abilities or a DVR, you won't read them all, but this is what Chuck Lorre calls his Vanity Cards. Basically, as one of the creators of the series, he has decided to take excerpts from his own blog and post them after each episode. I strongly encourage checking in every so often to see what he has to offer, it is truly funny stuff.

Define Sportsmanship!

It has always been a topic of debate in the sporting world; at what point is scoring too many points a sign of poor sportsmanship and lack of respect for the opponent. Is is Tom Brady and the New England Patriots putting up 52 points against the Washington Redskins, throwing deep passes late in the game? Some say yes, some say they are paid professionals, they get paid to put up points. Well, what about amateurs, like high school football.

This brings me to the Smith Center Redmen. Apparently, they have taken the act of scoring to a new level, an art form really. In nine games this season, this small town high school in Kansas has been outscoring 640-0 this season. That is an average of 71 points per game. Most recently, racking up 72 points in the 1st quarter. I understand the argument that a team is just doing what they are supposed to, but come on, how hard is it for a coach to send in the C squad, dummy the offense, and run up the middle when the score is 40+ to zero? Talking to friends who have watched this team play, they haven't done much to pull starters and simplify the offense, they continue to do what they do. Great team, probably, respectful, no way!!!!

Ahhhhh, Flowers!

I have been married now for 5 and a half years. I can still remember back to the day that I got married, it was a beautiful summer day, an awesome ceremony, and a wonderful reception. Of everything that went on that day, of everything that we did to prepare for one of the biggest days of our lives, there is only one thing that I remember vividly that made the day the best ever. That was the flower arrangement, I mean, without those flowers, the day would have been ruined.

I hope that you could sense the flowing sarcasm in that statement above. Honestly, of all the weddings that I have been at and been apart of, I can say with certainty that the flowers are the last thing that I notice and remember, heck, I don't even remember what flowers we had at my own wedding or even what color they were.

However, for Elana Glatt, the flowers are apparently the only thing that she can remember. She spent over $27K on the floral arrangement at her wedding. So, you can imagine that she was upset when the flowers were not the correct color, and apparently somewhat wilted. She has decided to sue the florist for ruining her wedding. Now, at this point I can see her point. If I paid that much for flowers, I would expect them to be correct. I get upset when I read the next fact of the case.

She isn't sueing to get her money back, instead she is sueing for more than $400K. Yes, that's right, more than $400K. Now, I understand wanting your money back, but come on do you really need 14 times what you paid, especially for something as insignificant as flowers. This is what I dislike about our justice system, someone can sue for any reason and any amount and the courts will hear it and sometimes side for stupidity because of some loophole or other retarded reason.

How Good is Starbucks

The highlight of the week at my place of business is the fact that we have switched out our vending machine vendors and gone with a new company. They promise to provide a higher quality product, more selection, and less prices. Well, the price of pop and food did go down by a whole 10 cents, apparently there are healthier options for snacks, but most importantly, they switched out our coffee machines and put in new ones that serve up coffee, hot chocolate(made with milk or water), cafe mocha's, latte's, etc....(decaf versions, too). Of course, while it is free coffee, why would I want something that is from a lousy vending machine when I can get starbucks coffee(I can hit them on the way to work or our cafeteria sells it, as well).

Starbucks is one of the biggest brands in coffee in the U.S., great tasting, many believe you cannot get a better cup of coffee anywhere. Well, the other day I did get a better cup of coffee than Starbucks, it came straight out of the new coffee machine that was installed. I am no coffee guru, but it tasted as good as any cafe mocha that I have received from Starbucks, so I ask everyone, how good is Starbucks, really?

Gaming Kills!!!!!

I am not an avid internet gamer, I have played some online games like WOW and City of Heroes, but I wouldn't call myself a gamer. Well, maybe I am since I do play console games often(Madden Rules!!!!). However, I play often enough to know that anytime I hear someone say that video games are bad and can cause violence, I declare shenanigans a insist that there are other factors that are not being considered. However, after reading this article, I am convinced that video games can be DEADLY!

Apparently, this man in China dropped dead from exhaustion after spending 3 straight days playing online video games(they wouldn't divulge what game he was playing). So, maybe video games can be deadly, and I am sure advocates who fight to rid the world of games will use this to their advantage. However, I implore people to look at what really happened here. You have some idiot who decided that playing video games was more important than sleep and an internet cafe who was unwilling to tell this guy to go home and get some rest. Clearly had nothing to do with the game itself.

Look at the bright side, after he dropped dead, there were about 100 other internet users who left the cafe in fear after the death. Hopefully, the were fearing their own demise. If this man's death somehow inspires other gamers and internet junkies to take some time to rest in between these marathon battles and surfing, and saves their lives, then his death carries with it an inherent nobility that we should all be so fortunate to possess. So, while some say "poor China Man", I say poor us!

My Lucky Day

For the past several months, I have been looking high and low to find a Guitar Hero controller for my Xbox 360. I have GH2 and love it, but with only one guitar, the experience is limited. I have searched several Best Buys, Wal-Marts, Targets, GameStops, etc. consistently over the last several month with no luck. I even tried Ebay, but with s&h, it just wasn't a good deal. Finally, I go into GameStop on Sunday as another desparation attempt, and the heavens opened up, angels sang, they had a controller.

Now, this isn't the end of my lucky day, it gets better. They actually had a used one for $30, and a new one for $60, well, I don't care if it is new, so I said give me the used one(which was even in a box). So, I paid my $30 + tax(thanks Uncle Sam) and went home to share my new found fortune with the whole family. As I opened up the box and pulled out the controller, something seemed odd, it was still all wrapped up, stickers weren't even opened, and it had a certain new car smell to it. After further investigation, I found that the cashier gave me the wrong box and handed me the new controller, rather than the old. Looks like I will need to go to church next week to show my appreciation!!!

Coaching Tirades

As a KU fan, the 52-7 blowout of defending MAC champions Central Michigan over the weekend was a great site to see. Of course, it may not have been as sweet for WR Raimond Pendleton. It started off great, he returns a punt 77 yards for a touchdown, unfortunately, he dove into the endzone and was flagged 15 yards. Well, this is what coach Mark Mangino had to say about it.

I hope he doesn't think twice before returning a kick, just diving into the endzone.

The Gods Have Spoken!

The thing I enjoyed most about this Labor Day weekend is be start of the college football season. And what a way to start, with blowouts, nail-biters, and even the ever popular upset. Now, as a football fan, there is one principle that I believe in very deeply, and that is the presence of the all powerful, Football Gods!!! That's right, there are Football Gods, and they know everything and punish anyone who does not honor their existence. If you don't believe me, just ask the Michigan Wolverines!

See, the Wolverines kicked off their run at the National Title in style, by losing to D1-AA Appalachian State. This is the first time that a D1-AA school has beaten a ranked D1-A opponent. Of course, I am a firm believer that this embarrassing loss if they wouldn't have upset the Football Gods. How did they do this you might add. Well, last year when they were not chosen to play in the national title game, they moaned, whined, complained that they should be there over Florida because their only loss was to Ohio State, and that they were being punished for not playing. Nevermind the fact that they didn't play any other major opponents, lost to OSU already, and didn't even play in a conference championship game. Well, when teams moan, whine, and complain, then the Football Gods get angry and will get their revenge. So, after Michigan lost their bowl game last year, another reason why they didn't belong in a title hunt, and talked this year about how they would win it all, the Gods showed them that they can't take anything for granted. I say good for them and good for Appalachian State, I can't think of a better way to start off the college season!

Miss Teen USA

The Miss Teen USA pageant took place last week and while almost nobody will remember who actually won the pageant, everyone will remember who didn't. He was able to turn a red paperclip into a house through a series of trades. Well, now meet George Hotz, of Glen Rock, New Jersey. George is the latest internet blogger to make a trade for something "sweet". George was able to trade his Apple iPhone for a Nissan 350Z, 3 new iPhone's, and a paid consulting job. Not bad for a 17 year-old high school kid. Now, this seems pretty ludicrous, I mean, one iPhone for a new car and 3 new phones. Well, this wasn't just any iPhone, it was special. Now, I am not talking make you breakfast in the morning or a complimentary reach around type of special. No, what this phone could do is work on the T-Mobile network. OOOOHHHH! AHHHHH! That's right, this 17 year-old spent 500 hours trying to figure out a way to hack the iPhone to allow it to work on other networks besides AT&T. Well, he found a way, and is being handsomely rewarded for it. Of course, the legalities of this issue are still up in the air, but hey, with a 350Z, he will have no problem finding a date on Friday night.

In Honor of.......

I have a friend who told me she was really excited after hearing that I had started a blog. That is, of course, until she read my first post, which was about sports. After hearing this, there was only one thing I could do.....dedicate my next sports blog to my friend, ErinFaye! So, this rest of this post is now in her honor.

Tiger Woods made yet another milestone today on his way to becoming the undisputed greatest golfer in PGA history. He won his 4th PGA Championship, 13th major win, and the first major champion to make a par on the 72nd whole in Southern Hills history. Since turning pro, Tiger has dominated the sport and is well on his way to being the Michael Jordan of golf. To put his dominance into perspective, he has more majors than the rest of the Top 10 in the world, COMBINED!!!! I got to watch his final two holes today, and I got to tell you, the best part wasn't watching how he sized up every shot, how he was hands down better than everyone else. The best part was that I got to watch it in High Definition. If you have never watched a sporting event in High Definition, you are truly missing out. Not only is it clear, colorful, and like being right in the action, but the detail is amazing. Here they are playing golf in 100+ degree heat, and I could actually see every little bead of sweat pouring off of the heads of the golfers.

The lesson I learned in all of this is that it doesn't matter how boring golf is to watch, and it is, high definition will make it worth watching, everytime!!!!!!

Stay in School

Over recent years our society seems to have become obsessed with "Bling! Bling!". The hip hop culture thrives on the idea that to be a "Baller" you have to have tons of money, or at least spend money like you have it, with their "iced" out chains, big houses, fancy cars, tv shows like My Super Sweet Sixteen, etc. Tiger Woods pulls in a cool $100 million a year, 90% of which is endorsements. We look at celebrities and athletes and want to be like them, have their money, or their lives. Well, if that is what you are after, then I am here to tell you that your standars are rather low!

That's right, these people pale in comparison to the true "Baller's" of our generation. If you want to learn more, I suggest watching The Fabulous Life of Billion Dollar Wall Street Ballers. I caught this show over the weekend I must tell you, these people make bank, and spend like they do! Tiger makes $100 mil a year, highest paid athlete, well, Stephen Cohen, the hedge fund king, made $1 billion last year. They also make large charitable donations, like raising $71 million for a charity in NYC, oh yeah, that was just in 1 night. These people could outspend and out"Ball" any celebrity or athlete on the planet. So, next time you decide that schoolwork is unimportant because you want to be a famous musician, or athlete, or celebrity, just remember, you are only limiting yourself, because you can make a whole lot more "cheese" in the business world.

It's HOT!!!!!

So, one of the better movies to come out in the last year has to be Hot Fuzz. This is the latest installment of comedy from the same people that gave us another classic, Shaun of the Dead. Anyway, this movie came out on DVD on Tuesday, and I had to run out and buy it. It was great, I had my $20 Best Buy rewards certificate, so it would be a free movie. I came home, ate dinner with the family, and proceeded to my local Best Buy to make my purchase.

Now, I don't usually rush to buy these movies, I don't wait in line, I don't try to go over lunches, etc. I mean, what's the point, the movie will be there after work or the next day, just go when you have time. Well, that didn't really work out for me. I got to Best Buy where they had a huge display set up to hold all of the DVD's that they carry, except it was missing one little thing, the actual DVD. Yeah, apprently, they had sold out. Well, I take that back, they did have about 5 copies of the Full Screen version. Unfortunately, I don't buy full screen movies, waste of money for my widescreen tv. No worries, I figure I would just pop over to Target to get the movie, I had to run there anyway. Again, no luck, they didn't have any copies of any kind left. Alright, maybe Hastings.....Wrong again! Finally, I make my way to Wal-Mart, which I try to avoid because I hate that place, but I was desparate. All of a sudden, the Heavens open up, the light shines, and I am able to buy the 2nd to last copy of the Widescreen version.

Now, I gotta say, this is the first time I have ever gone looking for a new release movie and had such a tough time trying to find a copy. I guess the production company underestimated the movies underground popularity and the demand that would be out there, somebody needs to fire their planner!!!!!!

And the Survey says.......

So, apparently researchers at the University of Texas were so hard up to find a topic to study, they decided that they would study the Why's behind people have sex. I know, I know, the question that plagued me when I read this article is that nobody had tried to tackle this kind of topic before. I mean, I have spent numerous sleepless nights asking myself, why do I have sex? Why does anyone have sex?

Lucky for us, after spending 5 years, yes, that is right 5 years of studying this topic, they have found the # reason why men and women have sex. And the survey says........."It Feels Good"! Oh wait, there is more, they even uncovered that men are opportunistic when it comes to sex, if it is there and available, they will jump on it. I was flabbergasted when I read that, I mean, who knew.

The only saving grace I have about this entire study is that they apparently spent there own money on it, so luckily, our hard earned tax dollars weren't wasted on such revolutionary research!

I'll Huff, I'll Puff..........

And I will burn your house down instead! So, in case you don't know, there are these websites that you can go on to and post pictures of yourself, your pets, etc. and ask the online community if they think you are cute or not. You can also battle against other people on the site to see who is cuter. Sometimes, people can get very mean in their posts. Anyway, I was talking last night with some friends about things like this and it was brought up that since you can be anonymous on the internet, you are more likely to say things that you normally wouldn't. Well, I would tend to agree, however, somebody should have told that to John Anderson.

Apparently, he joined a picture sharing website and was posting some of his artwork and political views. Well, this brought an onslaught of people posting insults and using foul language, so he blocks them, that is that! Well, not exactly, he continued this feud with several people online until one of them found out his name and address, drove from Virginia to Texas, and burned his trailer down! Seriously, how messed up in the head do you have to be to go and burn someone's house down over internet stupidity. So, I guess we aren't always that anonymous on the internet.

Text or bust!

So, I know that the latest and greatest fad in world of technology is to text message people. As a sports fan, I must say that I cannot stand the hypocrisy that Bud Selig is displaying when it comes to Barry Bonds and his pursuit of the most sacred record in all of sports, the All-Time Home Run Record. I understand his initial position, he doesn't want look like he is supporting a person who everyone believes achieved his records by cheating and using steroids. So, he won't show up for the games and MLB will not be recognizing Bonds' accomplishments. I guess this is noble. However, here is the problem I have. Steroids and performance enhancing drugs have been a problem in baseball for over a decade, McGwire and Sosa in 1998 were both using, but nobody said anything then. Bud Selig knowingly turned his back on the steroid issue because when the sport needed a boost to draw fans, he found that if people were hitting home runs, fans would show up. He turns his back on the steroid problems when they are helping to draw fans and make money, but now he turns his back on those same people to give the impression that he is hard on drugs. B.S.

Here is my perspective, do I think he used steroids, yeah, but not his whole career, probably started shortly after the McGwire/Sosa battle. However, other than 2001, when he hit a record 73 HR's, his production has been pretty consistent, around 30 - 40 HR's a year, just like Hank Aaron. He has never tested positive for Steriods or performance enhancing drugs, and if baseball had such an issue with this stuff, how come they didn't have any enforceable policy against using steroids until a year ago? What he is doing is remarkable and should be celebrated, until he tests positive for steroids or is found guilty in a court of law, the man is innocent and Selig should be in attendance when the record is broken, like a good commissioner should be.

My First Blog

Well, I figure that it is about time that I got a blog of my own. I have been reading several friends for awhile, but just never got around to starting one of my own. So, here it is, my first post on my very own blog, I feel so tech savvy. Anyway, I decided to create this blog because I read a lot of interesting stuff on the internet and in the paper and thought this would be a great way for me to just provide my own thoughts about life, sports, politics, and just about everything. I hope people find it interesting.
